My daughter's 1997 Automatic Honda Accord EX Coupe just had a weird problem. She cranked up the engine, put her foot on the brake to shift to reverse, but gear lever stuck. The button located on the left side of gear shift would not push in. Then when it pushed in, the gear shift lever would not move. We turned car off, put key in shift lock slot beside gear shift lever and then moved gear shift lever. While still holding in the button on gear shift lever, we were able to crank car and then put it in reverse.

What is going on here? Any ideas? If so, how much is the needed part and how involved to repair. She is a college student with tuition due this week and we really did not need this added problem with her car.

check the brake lights and maker sure they work ....if not check or replace the brake light switch.
