Default fuel efficiency 96 accord

what are my options to increase fuel efficiency? I drive a stock 5-speed manual 4door 96 accord LX.

I've heard intake and new exhaust...what kind should I get?

Is there anything else I could do? Gas prices really suck, even for Hondas now. I'm almost looking at a prius *gasp* ... almost...not.

Intake and exhaust wont increase gas mileage. Suposedly intake do, but I never saw any MPG gain. If you want gas mileage, keep it stock and maintained.

intakes do increase mpg... but nothing else. Except basics like changing spark plugs. maybe you could even get improved spark plugs. They are made of platinum or something? I dont know. lol

buy an aem short ram intake. cut the intake inhalf. it will add 30-50miles to your tank, at least it did to mines.

Drive conservatively. Don't gun it unless you really feel the need, accelerating moderately will help your mileage. Also, throw it in neutral downhill, when you see a red light up ahead, etc. I'm not actually sure if that actually helps, might just run your brake pads out faster. But I know when my wife drives my car she gets about 27-28MPG, I get about 33-34. I drive fast, but I don't push the engine like the little lady.

stick with regular unleaded. dont waste your money with the premium, your engine was meant to run on 87. Short ram intakes, I'm not positive since I've never used on, but I know for sure that they increase low end torque.

This is my setup right now and I'm averaging about 400+ mpg city and 550+ mpg hwy.

-I have a cold air setup from http://www.acautotechnic.com. if your interested Not the best but not the worst either.
-header
-still using the stock catalytic (test show its only about 1-2 horse power lost from a high flow aftermarket, not test pipe its actually -1 hp.)
-and a full cat back exhuast.
-NGK v-power plugs, tried iridiums already
-Nology wires
-and castroil high milage oil, 5w-30

I've been using this for the past year. I've never missed resetting my tripmeter. with gas prices so high I cant afford to.

hope this will help any

1.Get nitro fill in your tires as opposed to regular air, not only does it help MPG But it also helps with tread wear

2.Get urself a Cold Air Intake, a cooler engine is a more efficient engine

3.Dont slam the Gas pedal, go fast but build the speed up

4.Tint windows really dark , it helps to keep your car cool inside so you wont have to blast your AC

5.Dont carry a whole bunch of stuff in your trunk, the less your car weighs the better the gas mileage

6.Keep up with regular maintenence and make sure u have good spark plugs

you guys rock. I already drive pretty conservatively, and I almost never use my A/C (windows down baby).
As for the short ram...how much do those cost? I know a cold air intake should cost about 99 and I should have no problem installing it...

And yeah, it's a stick. Sticks are the awesomeness. Thanks for all the advice.

1996 DX sedan and last week I got 275 miles to E (driving conservatively most of the time)... i assumed it was about 15 gallons i used (thinking about 2 gallons past E for reserve) and came out to about 18mpg... That REALLY sux... my 02 grand am gt w/a V6 got @ least 23mpg and I ran the hell out of it pretty frequently...
