thanks, but Still need some help with 92 accord
Hi Guys,
Problems before the work I describe below:
slow gear changing
lack of power
So I took your advice and changed the spark plugs, spark plug wires, and fuel filter. Thanks to the help from you guys I was able to do it confidently and you guys easily saved me over $200 in installation fees. Besides those things being changed the valve gasket kit was changed also. This car is a 92 4 door accord with over 150,000 miles. While changing the spark plugs I noticed 2 were covered in oil. So I cleaned all the spark holes as well as I could. I will assume this was due to old valve cover gaskets, which I had replaced at a shop. I also changed the fuel filter, and wire set, I decided to do the Seafoam thing also. So I put 10cc into each spark plug hole and then put about 8 ounces into the gas tank (gas tank was nearly full). Once everything was done I started the car (I let the seafoam sit in the spark plug holes for about an hour) and let it idle for awhile some white smoke came out for a little bit, and that was all. Seeing only white smoke, I figured I would not get that much black smoke since I had just replaced the fuel filter. After all that I took it on a test drive the car seemed to idle a lot smoother.
I encountered a couple problems though:
The first gear change in the car (somewhere between 10-15 mph, ? rpm) seems to always go smoothly.
The second gear change in that car (at around 30 mph, 3000 rpm) would shake the car forward and backward, you would here the engine rev hard but no power (some times even hear popping or chugging like sounds), then finally after that (right when you think the car was going to stall out) it would change gear, and then be fine.
I think the third time it would change the gear (at around 40 mph, 3000 rpm) it would change that one smoothly.
The fourth time it would change gear (at around 50 mph, 3000 rpm) it shook the car again forward and backward, you would here the engine rev hard but no power (also hearing popping or chugging sounds, I think they were comming from the side), then finally after that (right when you think the car was going to stall out) it would change gear, and then be fine.
After the intial gear changes the car would change all gears no problem (fast and smooth), I was able to drive quite smoothly on streets and freeways. I took it out for a 20 mile drive, with no problems beside the ones I described to you. This mourning when I took the car out again I experianced the same problems as above.
Do you guys have any ideas to why this might be happening?
thanks
James
