Default Motor oil 5w-30

I change my oil and filter every 3k. But these days i am kinda feeling different about the motor oil. If I use 5w-30, the first 1500 miles engine runs very smoothly, and the rest of 1500 miles it runs kinda rough. Anyone has any idea why its doing this? And I have tried 10w-30 and that gives me bad fuel milage. I use usually 76 brand motor oil. So,anyone has any idea about it? I want my engine runs smoothly. Should I use any other brand name? Any suggestion?

Thanks
Bill.

76 is owned by Conoco/Phillips now. I still see them around sometimes, not where I live but usually when I travel. I can't speak for the quality of their oil or gas but I'd just try switching brands and see if you get different results.

I usually go to Honda Dealership for oil change. They charge me $25 bucks for it. They use "Honda oil filter" with "76 brand" motor oil. I asked aboat it, they said its a good brand and they order special motor oil from 76 for their "Honda" cars. So, I assume they are reliable since Honda dealer is using it. I think, from now on, i will buy the filter from Honda and use
Mobile1 syn-blend. Lets see how it goes. I will post the result in 2 weeks.

thanks
Bill.

My Honda dealer only stocked Honda brand motor oil (made by Exxon I believe) comes in a grey quart jug. Red-Black label. Sounds like your dealer is being cheap. My Acura dealer stocks the same but gives the options of Castrol brand oils if you so choose.

I change my own oil of late, both our cars have had Syntec since new, never had an issue.

i think u should really consider the weather channel when changing youre motor oil,in fact the hotter it gets the hotter youre engine gets there for more oil burnn off and excessive gas consumption, when hot you shoul try oil with thicker vescosidy levels for example 5w30 good only in dec-jan-feb
mar-apr-may,10w-30 good for high weather in jun-july-aug(20w50 if high milage over 100,000).....atleast thats how i save gas and motor life expectancy.

Dealerships that follow the rules use a special blend oil made by Exxon/Mobil.

Don't use 20W50 in any Honda car. Its too thick.
