Default rear brake question

My husband replaced my front brake pads without a problem. He says he can't figure out how to change the rear ones, though. He said it looks like you have to disconnect the brake line and bleed it or something like that- is that true? is it best to just take it to a shop and have them replace the rear pads?

If I'm not mistaken (please correct me if I'm wrong) as long as your rear breaks are disks, it should be same as front breaks... but again, I could be wrong.

Rear disc brake caliper turns (rotates) to move the piston in. The proper way to service this item is with a rear caliper disc brake tool. It's a slotted head that fits into a 3/8" socket in most cases.

I got my tool at a local autoparts stores ~$30?

The tool is a cube with different sized "teeth" on each flat side for different brakes, it is driven with a ratchet. The tool is around or under $10 and can be found at an auto parts store.

My "cube" was mfg. by KD tools, I know it wasn't $10 cheap. You can find them online this cheap, but you still need to pay for shipping. Autozone charges around $20 for the tool I think. Never found one locally for $10. Napa likely has a better selection then A-zone.

My cube came as a matched set with the KD front Heavy duty caliper spreader tool.

I originally got my set for working on my 97 S10, GM brakes are the most fun. All the headaches of 1975 and 2005 all in one truck. I hated that truck...
