Default 98 Accord EX low rumble/hum

I got my car back from the dealership today - had the following done:

- timing belt
- drive belts
- radiator flush
- hepa filters replaced
- oil change

Took the car out for a spin, engine sounds like it has a low rumble/hum to it.

Nice thing is it seems like one of the techs decided to get rid of my 1st gear clutch squeel :-)

Car picks up better now, but the low noise was not there before.

I'm at 122000 miles now. This is my second timing belt. Went to Arrowhead Honda in Peoria AZ. They did the last one too. Have always done a fantastic job in the past.

Ideas? I did a search for engine hum but didn't find anything for a 6th gen.

How much did you spend total?

$600 for everything. I went for a ride with the shop foreman on Monday. He heard everything, and told me to leave him the car so he and his head tech and spend a day with it. He suspects the belts are on too tight, or maybe a bearing is going in my water pump - it's still the original one at 122K miles.

That's fine by me. Doesn't cost me anything, and they will give me another new car while mine is in the shop like last time. We'll see what they find.

Wow...I live just a few miles from Arrowhead Honda. In fact I was there recently with the wifey test driving some 7th gen Accords to replace my wife's aging Civic. We ended up going with a TSX and we love it.

But that's cool you've had good luck with their service dept. My '99 Accord is due for a timing belt change as well, and that's the first project that I don't really want to DIY.

Hope your problem gets worked out.

water pump or alternator could be making noise if the belts r new. i thought the water pump got changed when the timing belt is done at the dealerships. could also be a wheel bearing. they make a lovely hum. as they get worse wind tunnel volume. hope its just a belt.

Got the car back. They said that the timing belt tensioner bolt was way too tight, so they loosened it a bit and that solved the problem.

The water pump is not an automatic replacement - I've opted out of it on this one. I will be getting it done soon though.
