Default 99 Acoord EX - hard acceleration

Hi,
I have a 99 Accord EX V6. Recently I did something I hadn't done for couple years which I later regret cuz it was just plain stupid (for me).

I was already driving 10mph over the speed limit when this little punk in a beat up Civic came right up behind me. Yes tailgating. When the road finally turned to 2 lanes, he pulled beside me at this stop light. When the light turned green, yes stupid me, floored my car. Both of our engines roared. But the difference was that he was about 100 yards behind me before I blinked.

This is not my driving habit. I normally don't drive this car with hard accelerations. I'm no car mechanic. But I know it's bad for the engine such as warpping the pistons and the cyclinders. My question is, is this one time or occassional hard acceleration just as bad?

Thanks.

dude there are people out there that beat the shit out of their cars/trucks quite a few times a week and so far dont have any serious problems. every once in a while dont hurt at all, in fact it cleans out the valves from what i've been told. but when you get to the point where your beating the balls off the engine all the time, you may run into problems a few thousand miles down the road.

Occasional hard acceleration is ok because sometimes it's actually necessary. Same thing with suddenly slamming on your brakes or suddenly swirving hard to the left/right. Sometimes it necessary and car manufacturers try to meet/exceed expectant standards just for those types of situations.
Since you have a 99 you're well beyone your break in period (Unless you have less than 3K miles on the car) so you should be fine

Thanks! I feel much better now. So maybe we do need to show these punk kids how it's done once in a while huh. LOL just kidding.

Its an automatic... your car will not hurt it self unless you try downshifting mannually ie: D4 to D3 or 2 and so on

Just as long as flooring it isn't a part of your typical drive style ... the occasional hard acceleration isn't bad.

hell...my 00 accord EX has lived at redline ave. since the day i bought it. i use it for road racing, autocross, and for any other kind of motorsport mayhem you can think of. the car has never given me any problems. i haven't driven it much in the past few months since i bought my EVO IX MR, but it's got 105k miles on it, and drives better than the day i bought it. it's getting a K24 and 6speed soon tho, so even if this motor gets hurt, it's not that big of a deal haha
