Default antenna problem?

hey guys,

i got a 95 accord sedan LX....so i have a power antenna unlike the EX models thats on the windows. When i turn on the radio the antenna goes up and then there's like a knocking, studdering sound like it stuck...and in the end, everything has expanded except a section of the antenna which seems still stuck. Then when i closed the radio, it goes down with that knocking, studdering sound again. Is my antenna busted? The motor going off on me? Any ideas? thanks.

ive seen almost every power antenna that honda ever put on their cars crap out...

Lubrication would help... if you can find something with Teflon in it, that'd be good, cause it wont wear off or dry.

I think what happens is they start to stick, then the motor tries to push it and the gear on the end of the antenna gets stripped cause its only plastic... you can replace the mast instead of changing the whole motor assembly... but try lubing it up first.

Sounds similar to my problem, only my antenna won't retract completely. I tried loosing a bolt but it didn't do anything. Then I really messed it up by opening my truck (with a wing) while the antenna was up, so the wing hit the antenna and it bent it and when I bent it back, the thing cracked. Now I have the cord inside intact but the housing broken. Here was the really funny part: I accidently turned on my radio then and the cord unwound completely, only the metal housing didn't follow, so I had the top section flopping around at the end of this long cable. Not good at all. I don't want to replace it because I'm saving for suspension, and I really don't need to listen to the radio since I have CD, but I want to remove the antenna. Anybody know of something I can plug the hole with then? The more power stuff you have, the more there is to break.

just to let you know..... it doesnt matter if you have an LX or EX, they both had power antennas for 94-95. And the 94-95 LX and EX coupes had On-glass antennas. For 96-97 both LX and EX coupes and sedans had on-glass antennas.

lubricate it with some wd-40 and do some gentle pulling and bending of the antenna until it goes up and down all the way.

hey guys, just an update........at the gas station yesterday, as i was filling up the tank, I kinda tried to pull it up, since it was almost fully extended. Stretched it out so that the antenna expanded all the way. Then kinda just wiped off the dirt at each end of the expanding antenna. When i got home and turned off the radio it went down fine. This morning it was fine and just for protection, i added some WD-40 like bonestock said. I think it may have been dirt buildup around the edges? The antenna has retracted and expanded twice with no problem since....i hope that was just a temporary problem....

and thanks for all the help guys
