Is age or miles harder on belts?

I agree that usage is more stressful than age. Tires are a good example because they recommend you replace them after 6 or 7 years even if they haven't worn out already.
As for a $300 timing belt change, that probably doesn't include a new water pump as they will recommend you get that done at the same time, so yeah they'll "dick" ya. It also doesn't include shop and supply fees and of course taxes.
What's wrong with used underwear? I'd buy it as long as it's from Carmella Decesare. :gorgeous: :boink:

belts id say dry rot, heat, oil gets to them too. they stretch.. your engine timing can be off if its not changed. my sister just got her timing belt changed on her car. a used 90 corolla with a huge oil leak out of the timing case. stamp on the block showed it hadnt been changed since 1996. she got the car 2 yrs in august and it had 89,000m and has 121,000. so she was pushing it. i dont think old corollas have the interference engine so if it broke she just wouldnt go anywhere.
belts r cheap and so is the labor. a used timing belt is stupid considering the labor involved to replace it if it breaks. not to mention the engine damage. u can probably get away with not changing radiator hoses on schedule but belts, not worth the grief.
