Another gas mileage question.... 16 MPG
It's been 4 months since i bought my 98 Accord I4 5 speed that has 105k miles on it. I've replaced the following parts:
I've also done oil changes and the tires are fully inflated around 35psi. Somehow i still get on average of 16 mpg doing 80% city driving 20 % highway. I've done a search and saw most people get more than 16 mpg. Could anyone please tell me what else could i do to improve my mpg. Would changing the fuel filter help??? By the way I drive normal, and rarely go over 3000 rpms. I also use regular to fill up my tank. Thanks for reading.
- timing belt and water pump
- spark plugs
- air filter

a badly jammed EGR will cause poor milage, but you'd also see a CEL.
with 16mpg, try resetting your ECU ... also, somehow your fuel map might have fallen off? 16mpg is running awfully rich.

16MPG and no check engine light?
What kind of spark plugs did you buy?
If I were you I'd do the following, in this order: Seafoam the engine, install new NGK V-Power plugs (good for 30k or so miles), clean the EGR port, change PCV valve. If those 4 don't fix your problem you have much more serious issues.

Thanks for the info and quick reply...
The spark plugs i replaced with are NGK V-Power plugs. Indeed there's no check engine light on. I'm going to seafoam the engine, clean the EGR port, change PCV valve and see how i do on my next 2 fill ups.

Turn the key to the on position
ALL the lights on your dash should light up and turn off.
IF the CEL doesn't turn on at all there is no bulb.
I can't see someone getting 16 mpg and no check engine light.

16 mpg would be generous if you live in an area like LA. You sit and sit in traffic and therefore your mileage is crap. The highways should be called parkways because parking is all you do once you get on one.
