Default Speedometer Telling Wrong Speed And Dies Sometimes (95 Accord)

I have a 95 Accord EX and it seems like when the engine is cold the speedometer just stays at the bottom and when it's hot it works again but it tells the wrong speed. I've changed the VSS and it still does the same thing. Or does it take awhile for the VSS to kick in? Any input will be of help. Plus do i need to change the Cluster? Everything else works fine just that the speedometer needle dies sometimes.

I have the same exact car....with the same exact problem...for about 2 years now. I have never stumbled across a straight answer to fix this issue, but I did take it into Honda one time to get it looked at. They told me it was a gear behind the speedo that needed to be changed....to the tune of 250 bucks so I declined.

Like you said...speedo is usually dead when driving for ~5 miles after starting the car. Then sometimes mine pops back into action, a lot of times it just stays at 0.

Worst thing is the odometer stops too....I'm at 166k and it should probably say about 175k.

if I had to guess then I would say the speedo is bad as the theres only the VSS and the gauge cluster unless theres a wireing issue.
