break-in period
I was told (on my 6th gen) to not change the oil until 7500 miles because Honda puts some stuff in there also that helps break in the engine. Then again, Honda also says I only need to change the oil every 7500 after that, but I do it every 3-4K anyway. I would think that 1000 miles would be too early to change it though.
among car nuts, its an old rule of thumb to change the oil after the first 1000 miles of gentle driving, because there is a ton of wear in the initial 1000 miles. the next thousand should be more aggressive followed by another oil change. By the third oil change (around 5,000 miles on the odometer total), you can start running synthetic.
Honda says keep it in at 7,500 and change every 7,500. This is also more likely for their less harsh driving (highway only) schedule not the stop and go city driving schedule.

when i first got my car i went ahead and waited for that 7500 mark. Instead i played it safe and changed at 4000...and whatta u know, the oil is all dirty and pitch black.
i dunno i just think they say that so when ur motor breaks they'll be fishin more maintenance $ outta you. :dunno:
