To sell or not to sell
I've got a '93 Accord with 175K miles on it. I bought this car 4 years ago and it rocks. It's a 4-door (have a wife and kid) with the 5-speed. I wanted some opinions on whether or not to trade it in, I've been looking at a '98 integra. I'm worried about the high mileage of the Accord though the car just keeps on trucking and everything sounds and works great. I've replaced the driveaxles (CV's), wheel bearings, brake rotors and pads, and power steering pump. It's about due for a timing belt replacement too. But other than that in the last 4 years the sucker is solid. If I kept it I would probably invest 2-3K in it with a paint job, minor body work, possibly new shocks and the timing belt-water pump-belt tensioner job. So the question is, spend a few thousand and make it nicer or just dump it and get the integra?
if you're going to get another car, i suggest getting a new car. if you cannot afford one, save up, and keep this one. new accords or TSX's are pretty good looking, especially for a family car even. but that's because i like the new accords and TSX's. other than that it's up to you. i'm not too fond of integras.
your car honestly has ANOTHER 175k left in it. it's a honda! no worries. as for value, it's probably only worth about $2500 - $3500. i wouldn't advise putting that much into it. i say keep it running, drive it until you get sick of it, than get something nice and new. the nice thing is that as long as the paint is ok, it's not going to depreciate anymore. if you want to keep it for a few more years, do the mechanical stuff, but don't spend the money on paint because you'll never see the return on that investment.
Thanks for the opinions. Yeah, I'm aware it's only about half-way through it's life. It runs and sounds exactly like the day I bought it and it's in really good shape....except for that paint! It's originally an Arizona car which is sweet for me here in Utah, no rust. But the paint has some serious oxidation. The hood especially looks pretty bad. It would be as good as new with a new paint job and some minor body work. I guess I'll figure it out.
