Default Key wont come out of the ignition!

my key wont come out of the ignition...but when i disconnect the battery, i can take the key out...i just rewired the wires for my new cd player because the radio wasnt working right...while i was doing that the constant/memory wire got real HOT and rubber coating melted...could it melted any other wires that might caused the key to not come out the ignition? what can be the problem(s)?
edit: the car is a 95 honda accord

not sure why the ignition and head unit are related... but i guess you shorted someting out.

i bet you didnt use a mating harness for the head unit.

Was it in accessory I or II?

I notice that in my civic, I have to be in PARK to take out the key. (Accidently turned car off in Drive. LOL)

Did you unplug the battery while wiring?

this the reason you look for the source of the problem instead of trying to get around it! sounds like you shorted somthing out and melted a wire that is keeping power to the solonoid in the ignition lock, preventing the key from coming out. 1 option is to have the short repaired, since the solonoid will drain the battery down. but in the mean time you can unplug the solonoid on the ignition lock, just remember it will let you take the key out when your not in park!

Ever think of NOT hardwiring??? Maybe try spending $20 on a harness next time. These are the exact reasons why hardwiring is one of the dumbest things. The only time we(Best Buy) do it is on a few of the REALLY old Benz's.
