I bought my 96 accord from my sister with about 140K (155K now) and when she bought it, it was @ 80K. She's not much on maintenance, but the original owner had the car serviced on time all the time @ the dealership. Anyone think the timing belt may have been caught before 80K (i know it's recommended @ 90K or so) and also what's the highest mileage you guys have seen from the original timing belt?
I think a Safe bet would be to say on most honda's it's around 100k. I've had honda's that were well past 150k and still had the original belt on, but if it's not a beater I wouldn't push my luck if I were you. I'd replace it and don't forget to do the waterpump and seals as well.
I think it's normally replaced around 80 to 100k. Is she got it at 80k, I bet the person who sold it to her was trying to avoid paying for a new belt. I would get it done asap.
Check it out Edmunds.com. They have maintenance schedules for all the vehicles they have listed. Their schedule is pretty much a replica from the one I got from my dealer.
