does the dash unit store the milage in it or is it stored in the ecu???

my digital section has gotten to wheree some of the display doesn't work w/out a nice lil love punch. been thinking about looking for another on ebay & was just curious if a replacement would still display my current milage??

pretty sure the mileage is stored with the cluster itself.

a. you can try to fix the loose connection on the board. or
b. you can try swapping the display fram a working cluster, or
c. the dealer should be able to change the mileage on the new cluster to match the old one.

 

You have to switch the circuit boards. Since yours isn't working, find someone really realy good with electronics that can repair it. Maybe something came loose or a part of the board got burned out?

 

sounds like there might be soider joints on the display part if you retouch the joints and see if that fixes it if not replace the board but remove the 93c46 chip from your old one and but it into the new one and mileage is transfered ,or buy a used one with the mileage closest to yours as the dealer cannot transfer the mileage . remember the guage cluster is 98-99 only 2k's are diffrent. but on the 7th gens the mileage can be transfered to a brand new cluster with the HDS. it's a 1 time deal and will disable your old odometer unit.
