98 v6 ex at 80k mi

i dont have my car here at school with me... but my parents took the car out for a spin, and now whenever they start the car, all the dash lights (the ones that turn on, and turn off after the car starts) stay on after cranking the engine and letting it run.

Im 90% sure its the alternator... but ive searched, and only read of the lights sporadically flickering on and off when its at the end of its life.... not constantly staying on h:


just wanted to make sure before i have my parents replace it.

 

alternator issue. I'd get that replaced before it randomly fails on you. If you order the parts yourself, or have the dealer order the parts ... please post the needed items.

I want to do this myself, but don't have a clue exactly what needs to be changed with it.

 

Jani buy my alternator please, I need to get rid of it I'll include install instructions for you, it's really easy. I've done it twice. You might also want to replace that serpentine belt while it's off.

FYI, you probably have about 1k-1.5k more miles left on the alternatgor before it won't have enough regenerative capability to keep the car running with any accessories on.

 

i thought about doing it myself, but i wont be able to go home and do it for atleast another few weeks. I dont know if they want to wait, or just get it done by the dealer. I'm also up for the timing belt change, so i have to get an estimate for that too

i called my brother up, and he says only the parking brake light and the door/trunk indicators are lit.

cel, srs, battery, and the other lights turn off :dunno:

 

Ask him if there's a whining noise from the alternatoe area.

When my alt died the first time I got the same lights as your bro did. The second time I got EVERY light on. I think it depends on which part of the alternator fails :dunno:
