I just bought a 1997 accord coupe. manual transmission

its a SOHC 2.2 non-vtec

i wanted to swap the engine for a dohc vtec will this work with current tranny?also i want a swap that will be CALIFORNIA smog legal.

I hear that a prelude engine is better than mine the one i currently have and i will be able to use same trany and be smog legal? or will it work if i get a vtec head for it willl it be work for smog issues. Also nayone know good shops on south cali that wil do god swaps?

thanks i appreciate for your help info in advance

your 97 tranny will work on the H22 only gearing will be diffrent as for smog you need to use the prelude computer ,the motor is bolt in only the driver's mount has to be from a 4th gen lude .also make sure you get the computer from a car with the key and immobilizer unit as it won't start without it .

the prelude trans will give better performance as it's geared for the power band of the vtec motor ,and the ECU will plug into the 97

the immobilizer is a anti-theft device in 97+ preludes the keys have a coded chip in it and if the key code and the immobilizer control unit and ECU don't agree on the code the car won't start ....

unless it's a race car I wouldn't waste my time with the vtec head on a nonvtec motor as your just asking for problems.....and no it won't pass smog because it would fail the visual test.

the H22a4 97+ lude complete motor swap is about $3,500 for the complete X-over + all your tuneup parts + labor to install, wire and the $100 referee charge to make it a legal swap.

$3500, really?
are these figures, what it cost you?

I just changed the engine and tranny on my 94 with one of them used replacment motor/trans and it cost me about $1500 and I did the install my self. Damn I wish I would have looked into this before replacing it...

Stereo, did you do the swap yourself?
