Default EGR Insufficient flow on 98 Accord 4 cyl

I am getting a code p0401 on my 98 Accord. I want to know if it is possible to clean the EGR ports on the 6th gen 4 cyl. I don't see any ports. I've looked at several other threads on other engines but don't see anything for this engine. Also should I clean the EGR Valve? This is all electronic with no Vacuum tube.

Thanks

I have a 1996 Accord EX 4 Cyl. and the same thing happened to me about 2 months ago.
I actually replaced the EGR Valve itself, and make sure u spray throttle body cleaner in the holes and inside the rubber tubing connection that comes off the egr valve. Also, use a coat hanger and run it through the rubber tube to make sure u get all the carbon buildup out of it, i didnt do that and some 50 miles later my CEL came back on!
Clear sailin after that....

Hope this helps....

Uh yeah it does. The entire system is controlled by intake manifold vacuum pressure. The only electronic part is the actuator that enables the valve to open or close.

Do a search. The topic has been gone over countless times.

Default Thanks for the info

Pardon my ignorance on this. I have searched many of the threads and only found information on EGR Valves with a vacuum tube directly attached. Is there a procedure out there to clean the ports on a 4 cyl 98 accord? It sounds like you need to remove the intake manifold. Different from the earlier engines with ports on top of the manifold that could be cleaned?

Thanks

All you have to do is remove the intake manifold and you'll see a port on the head that's clogged with carbon...that'd be the EGR. Clean that and the corresponding hole in the mani with carb cleaner and knock the carbon out of it with a rod or a nail or something. Also, remove the EGR valve (the little canister thing) and clean the bottom holes of that out too. You'll have to buy some new gaskets for this job, and make sure you torque everything down correctly.

edit: actually, I'm not sure if you have to remove the manifold. You can probably find that info via a search.

I am in the same situation.

Removed and cleaned the EGR Valve (changing is the next thing I have to do)

Sprayed the carb cleaner into the egr passage and removed the black stuff out.

Still getting P1491.

How did you resolve your code?

i just had the same problem. I replaced my egr valve back in july or so, but the check engine light came on a week ago, egr code.....all i did was sea foam into the intake vacume line(about half the can), drove around a while, popped it into neutral and red lined in like five times. the light went off, been a week, give it a try......how many miles on your motor?
well heres exactly what i did
