Default audio system problem

I got my system way back in January and am just starting to have problems. Despite what some of you think, I hooked up my amp and two subs to my stock head unit. I like the fact nobody walking by knows theres a system in my car. Anyways, when I turn my car on the bass is REALLY loud. Seriously, you can't hear anything but bass, and it sounds like the speakers will blow. Even with the bass turned all the way down, it's still too loud. After about 2-3 minutes of driving it goes back to normal. WTF is wrong?

I took my ride back to the shop that did all the installation and they wouldn;t even look at it. They said the problem is with the head unit. Are they right? They didn't ven look at my car.

The problem shouldn't be the headunit. I think its the line converter box (I think that's what is called) that's used to hook up your headunit to the amp. Remember, stock headunits don't have RCA pre-outs, so you'll need this box to hook up to external amps without speaker line inputs. These $hity boxes almost always fail. I know, I had one that failed and everytime I accelerated the subs would lose power. I finally upgraded to a headunit with 3 pre-outs and I have complete control of my system. I can control how much bass my subs get and can even fine tune speakers individually from my headunit.

Check this box first before you blame the problem on your stock headunit.

Would this box also be known as a high-low converter?

In the 6th gen accords... the factory headunit does not have a "remote turn on" output... meaning since you have amps hooked up to it, the shop that put them in probably wired the amps to come on whenever the key is on... so weather your deck is on or off, the amps are still on. Being that there is no signal going to the speakers in the car, they act as a microphone for the amp... (a real microphone is essentially a small speaker, when vibrations cause it to move, it produces an electrical current) and you know what happens when you put a microphone in front of a speaker... you get FEEDBACK!!

You may want to try putting a switch on the remote turn on for the amp... that way, when you turn the deck off, you can switch the amp off too, so you wont get feedback.

Another way around this, is to get a new headunit. (I have a pioneer fhp-4400 for $100 )

Adding subs to a factory headunit is not a bad idea... they arent nessecarily the best sounding decks in the world, but they do work.

YES, it's called a high-low converter. and you'd def. better get one if plan on using the stock headunit!!! unless your head unit has RCA outputs already. if you don't plan on buying a aftermarket headunit, get the converter. get a good converter and don't cheap out. i believe they make some that just hook up and some that require power, and i'd def. say get the ones that require power. and the some converters also come with switches where you are able to adjust the frequency levels. those are the best ones in my opinion. all you have to do is hook up a 14 or 16 gauge wire to it and take it right off the power source for the amp, unless you got a distribution block that you can use. and also, like mentioned already, i'd also install a switch. you're headunit should have a remote wire and that's where the switch goes. if you don't have the radio on, you don't want the amps on. the problem you've got is very simple and can be fixed in about an about an hour or less. i wouldn't take the car back to the shop, just do it yourself.

I already have the high-low. There's no other way to connect the amp and subs w/o it. I guess I will look into a new head unit. Possibly a unit with a screen that's DVD ready. This is expensive, I know, but how expensive?

dvd ready isnt the expensive part. as long as there are outputs, then it should be ok, the problem comes in with the display itself

on the 6th gen accord the BLUE wire with gray strip is the wire you should tap for the amp ON\OFF instead of making a switch.
