92 Accord Fans not working properly!!
I have a 92 Accord LX Auto and only fan B is working. ( after car shuts off) Fan A seems to be dead. I had to replace the battery in the car last week because it was dead.
Under normal driving the temp is fine. When I come to a stop, the heat gauge starts to creep up and I have to put the car in neutral and slightly hold the accelerator down to get the temp to come back to normal. I tried turning on the A/C but the fans don't seem to work? I am wondering if it is the thermostat or a temp sending unit on the thermostat?
I would think that possibly the fan isn't receiving a correct signal to come on but who knows? It seems weird that holding the accelerator on seems to cool it down? Any help or suggestions would be great! Thanks

I would check the fans by applying power and ground to the fan connectors first just to establish that they are ok/bad. Then I would unplug the connector to the sensor by the thermostat and jump the pins with a paper clip or similar and see if the fans come on. I would start with that and let us know what happens.
Okay, here is what I did last night after work. I checked the fans by turning on the a/c and both fans come on like they should. When I turn off the car, the aux fan works as well.
I did notice that the temp gauge will climb and if I hold the accelerator down for a little bit, the temp comes back down. The fans are not coming on when the temp gauge climbs or when I hold the accelerator. It sounds to me like it might be narrowed down to the temp sending unit or the thermostat? Any Ideas?

Had this same problem in my 93 Accord. One day at a stop light, looked down, and the temp gauge was pegged out at overheat levels. Obviously it was still driving fine, so I took it on to the house. After a few checks and jumping this and that, it was the temp sending unit. I believe - if I remember right - that there is a temp unit for the gauge, and a completetly separate one for the fans. Both are right next to each other on the passenger side (left side when facing engine, under distributor cap). Easy to replace. Check hondaautomotiveparts.com for the part to save a few $. But definitely change it yourself. Any questions, holler.
Got it fixed! I ended up replacing the thermostat and the temp sending unit attached to the thermo housing. Also, flushed cooling system and replaced with good coolant. It seems to run a little cooler now and the fans come on like they are supposed to under normal driving conditions. Thanks for all the suggestions.
