Default Navigation system error message

2003 Honda with Alpine Navtech system built-in; DVD version 3.20AO constantly gives "Problem reading DVD, contact your dealer". Took car to dealer where they found no problem in unit and "thought" maybe the DVD was bad (its worked fine since new). They do not have a DVD to check if works and suggested I buy an updated DVD (they do not sell them). I removed DVD, checked it for errors, etc. on PC ... it appears fine and was easily read, returned to nav system ... problem still occurs. All else with system works (A/C, audio controls, info screens, etc.)

Does anyone have a clue to resolve without me having to spend $300 with Alpine on new disk just to test! I have tried in vain to find an answer ... no luck.

Thanks, Harold

How do they know if your DVD player has no problems, did they put another Disk to test? if not then go to a different dealer.
Its prolly your DVD-ROM if the disk works fine on the computer. Also check Ebay or try to borrow a DVD from someone to test, if the problem persists then its a bad DVD ROM.

Thanks ... they checked with "diagnostic tools" and found nothing amiss in the actual hardware. Not sure exactly what they did though. When you say "DVD-Rom" what are you referring to in this unit. I thought that was the disk itself. I am not electronically savvy. This DVD checked out fine in another car though. any more ideas? I not finding any suport from Alpine ... used to be able to see what had changed on updates and version numbers, etc. Do you know of a site that maintains that information or another reputable reseller.

if your dvd disc is not scratched up I would guess your navi unit in the trunk is bad the laser is not able to read the disc correctly kinda like a cd player that skips. it will not show up on most self test someone has to check the laser for read errors.
