Default mods and resets

are you supposed to reset the ECU when you put a mod on your car? such as an intake? i heard you have to restart the ECU so it "learns" to adapt to the new mod and how to manage itself.

I have heard that but I don't believe it actually does anything.

If you have OBD1 or OBD0, it won't make a difference anyway because the ECU doesn't have a logic program like OBD2.

USUALLY... When you do any sort of changes or mods, they just say to disconnect your battery for several seconds and then reconnect it. This gives the system time to reset with the new set-up, if it's going to.

Just don't disconnect your battery unless you have the code to your radio.

I have no idea what this reply is about, but stay out of this forum if this is all you have to say.

The ECU is something that isn't set in stone, it constantly adujusts itself. An ECU reset is always good when you're doing something that has an impact on the air intake or exhaust systems.

The upgrading an intake system changes the fuel to air mixture. It's best to reset so the ECU can learn from scratch.

Pull the "radio" fuse for 5 minutes. That'll get the job done for sure.
