you think it could be an alternator problem? it all started with me gunning it up a hill, then i smelled something burning, and my radio and clock went out, but i get the strange idle bouncing, and now my speedo jumps.

have u check the main relays ? when the main relays goes bad then usually the fuse keep blowing and the turning signal and other lights just go nuts.
make sure u check all the main relays and all the fuse. DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT take it to the dealer.

I have had an over charging alternator before, but it mainly made the dash lights go on and off, everything else was ok,

how steep was this hill?

Oil shifts in the engine. By "gunning it", your chambers might not have been properly coated for something like that.
