honda brake pads
Is it like anti-seize grease? Maybe it's for the back of the pads where they fit against the piston (inboard) or caliper (outboard). Also where the ends of the pad backing plate fit into the caliper bracket. Anti-squeak grease...
when you are taking the caliper off make sure that you remove the slide pins from the caliper and clean them also. get a small packet of molly lube and lube the slides to ensure that you wont have any problems with uneaven pad wear down the road. just a little tip to save you the possibility of a problem down the road.
You don't have to use the grease, but it's a good idea if you do. Like everyone has already said, it goes between the pad and the metal shim that goes up against the pad before you mount it back into the caliper.
The pads oscillate in the caliper up against this shim and that's what can cause some squealling.
