Default 97 Accord Coolant Leak under Engine

Hey all:

I have a coolant leak on my 97 Accord LX between the crankshaft pulley and the oil pan... Here is a picture:

I am hoping that this is just a leaky hose or something like that, but I didn't see anything under first inspection.

Unfortunately, I did change my oil at the same time, and it was a light milky brown, which I know is a sign of a leaky head gasket. I have never had any oil leaks in this area, and I hope that it is running down the block from say, the water pump or something else. I haven't dug in real deep yet...

Any suggestions on where to start the troubleshooting?? I feel like I can change the head gasket if needed, as I have the helms manual, and I have done about 4 honda timing belt changes already.

Thanks in advance

Phil

Is your engine over heating too? Do you see a big difference in coolent useage?

Take it to a place where they can do a leak down test to see what it is. When's the last time you did a waterpump change with your timing belt? Could be coming from any of the myriad of hoses at the back of the engine and leaking down. When did you last change your thermostat? Good luck.

What does the coolant in your radiator look like? It looks to me as a water pump leak. When my radiator was leaking last year, while driving it would spray back onto the engine block and some coolant ended up on the oil pan. Check your engine coolant drain plug also.

I have noticed my coolant requires more frequent fill ups...

As for my timing belt & Water pump, I did that at 90K miles.. I have 140K on the car now. I am going to do a more intensive inspection tomorrow night. I will check the water pump and all the coolant hoses then.

My coolant is still bright green, which I hope is a good sign that there is no oil getting in the coolant. But I am not sure about the coolant getting in the oil. We'll see....

Drain your oil and do a leak down test.
