Default 96 accord check engine light(UPDATED 1-18-06)

So I take it to autozone, brings up ineffient airflow...

1, we clean the 4 or 5 ports out, they were really nasty

2, we take off egr valve and spray carb cleaner/ leave over night and spray out in morning

3, put a new egr valve on and the damn light is still on even after I reset battery

What else do you guys recommand, im tired of this thing lol.. I cant pass the emissions test and im like a month late! (thanks for any help you can give)

there is also a egr valve solenoid, i had to change the egr vavle, soleniod and something else on my truck, i realize that your vheicle is not a truck, but that could be he problem. i had to get the solenoid from the dealer, but i went to O'Reiley's and they called the dealer so that I could get it cheaper.

How many miles on your car?

96 accords has an emission warrenty of 150000 miles. If your car is not over 150K and is not salvage then take your car to your local Honda dealership.

Default Updated 1-18-06

169299 miles
Same Problem

I love my car, had it for a few months. First two months no engline light and then it all of a sudden winks at me. Cleaned EGR ports and lines (were really nasty). Took off egr valve sprayed 2 cans of carb cleaner, left over night then blew it out.. nice and clean. still engine light comes on even after taking off battery cables and reseting it that way.replaced egr valve and Replaced solenoid and reset.. still same problems (light comes on after 50-150 miles)

put damn racing fuel in 1 gallon, then filled it up with premium. Also added 1 can of seafoam in gas tank. Drove 400 miles light came on around 170 miles. The engine runs so much better, it feels like a nascar and I cant get my car inspected because of the code. As far as my dad and I can tell with water and inspection the hoses are not leaking and are all on and secure as well.

This is what it says when I take it to get inspected (past 3 times)

NOT-READY REJECTION

Your vehicle has to many unset not ready readiness codes.

Catalytic convertor efficiency (not ready)
egr flow (not ready)
o2 sensors( not ready)

engine misfire -ready
heated 02 sensor- ready
fuel system performance- ready
comprehensive component - ready

Please somebody any help is so much appreciated. hate to take it to the dealer and they charge me 500 and it doesnt get fixed. hate to buy a new motor when this ones running like dale jarret on the brickyard 500 (hehe)
