Heres the deal, I searched for this but found nothing..

Usually when I'm driving and I stop at a light or stop sign, I change the gear to first, like its suppost to be. but when I clutch in and try to put 1st gear in, it does not go in all the way, unless I put it in another gear and try putting it in first again. This does not occur all the time, its every once in a while, is this normal or is there something wrong with my transmission..

I forgot to mention that it also occurs in Reverse sometimes. and my car is a 1996 Accord Coupe LX

 

Your clutch may not be disengaging all the way. The clutch is hydralic just liek the brakes. You may need to bleed the clutch. It's also possible the seals need to be replaced.

The other possiblity is that the gear synchronizers are worn out in 1st gear.

 

yea, id try flushing out the fluid and put some honda mtf or better.
ive changed mine 2 times and every time i did it, it always gotten better.

please let us know if bleeding the clutch helped. i've got a 94 Accord EX and occasionally i run into the same problem.

 

Generally, if bleeding doesn't help, you can start worrying about a clutch disk that has gotten warped, or maybe a pilot bearing going bad. Or a bad clutch MC.

Sorcerer, even if bleeding doesn't help him, it's still a good first step for anyone. How long has it been since the fluid was fresh?

 

JimBlake, the slave cylinder was leaking and the clutch fluid reservoir was empty so i had the slave cylinder changed and the reservoir filled in July.

 

Well, if you can rule out fluid leaks at this point, here's something to try...

Have someone pump the clutch pedal while you watch the slave & throw-out lever. I don't know if certain years are different, but probably the throw-out lever is supposed to move about 12 or 13 mm back & forth.

Then after pumping, have your helper hold the pedal down on the floor. Carefully measure the position of the T-O lever. If it slowly moves back towards the slave, over maybe 5 or 10 minutes, then your master cylinder is leaking internally back to the reservoir. I think the master is the ONLY place that can leak internally without leaking OUT.

You may have to repeat this test at different times. When this happened to my Integra brake MC, it wouldn't leak down all the time. You may have a hard time catching it in the act of leaking.
