major major problem... help PLEASE!
hey guys, havent been on HAN for a while but ive run into a huge problem.
so basically, i bought a new shifter knob, easy enough. put it on, looks like a stupid truckers shifter in a big rig. this is an automatic btw, and the knob is jsut a standard automatic knob but its metal not leather. anyways -
no bigie, read a DIY for shortening the shifter arm a little to accomodate new knobs and what not. so i got my pipe cutter and dit eh job perfectly and even rigged it up so that it was a little shorter than before like in the newer model japanese model accords.
so everything is great, car shifts into d4 and back to park, and then from d1 to park nicely. so i turn the car off and BAM! i cant get my keys out. no problem, wheel must be locked... nope
try jiggling the shifter... nope stil stuck. try turning on the car and shifting back to D and then to park... nope nothing.
so now im worried.
try shifting with the car off and it shifts! all the way through park to 1. then i try taking the key out and no its still stuck. now i realise im screwed and i try to shift one more time and OH NO.... the whole shifter is jammed. now i cant even shift into any gear!
i turn the car on and try... nothing. so i took the knob off, tried doing it with just the metal part inside the kbon that when pushed down, releases the button... nope. its jammed
so right now, my car is stuck outside, key in the ignition and unable to even be driven anywhere. i pretty much know what to do here and what went wrong. some how the shift buttong is stuck down waaay inside the tube that makes the shifter arm. i tried a few things but dont want to damage it further. now ive ound a brand new shifter on ebay. its goin for 65 and i think im gonna buy it unless the local shop can do it. either way, its gonna cost 75 for the shop to do it and 75 if i do it myself by buying a whole new shifter. the thing that completely baffles me is i did this step by step according to a person that did the same exact thing with teh same parts and is driving fine today. i have a feeling its the shifter itself that somehow just crapped out and would have done so anyway, since all i did was remove the knob and replace it while making it shorter.
any suggestions would be great. at least help me get teh key out f the igniton. please dont be gay like the douches on super-honda. all they did was falme me for "making a shirt shifter automatic" when thats not what i was doing. i was making a nice clean looking install and i guess somewhere i fucked it up. gimme a hand if you know what the issue is or tomorrow im gonan have to tow my car to tuffy auto and buy a new shifter if they cant fix it.
thanks in advance guys

ehh it was a diy off of v6performance. it was texted base and id taken appart the button assembly about 5 times to plan how i was gonna do this. it wasnt half assed at all, just for some reason it got jammed down there.
i have a feeling its just one of those things, although this alwasy seems to happen to me when i do a DIY. i did a black housing mod to my lights and had to reopen them cause i missed a spot, although that was more personal preference than anything else.
i guess ill just be paying 75 for a nes shift assembly, putting it in myself and either trying to shorten it again or just leaving it. im mad cause it was working adn all of a sudden it stoped. no reason why, it just did.

there is a shift interlock on the shifter. Seems you are having a problem with that. people have also has problems with the lock cylinder itself. Many the auxilary shift lock jammed, switch, you'll need to remove the center console and inspect the shift lock and auxillary shift release. Remove it and play the shifter aft and forth. Press the brake a try to listen and or see if the shift lock is werking.
make sure that the release botton on the shifter is fully disengaging when yu release it, yeah wut he said put the old shifter back and see. Possibly the new shift handle does not have enoughbutton play, thus making it not able to lock into park , causing the actuator that makes the shift lock engage , not work and not let yu remove your keys
