Default Weird idle problem

I have a 1998 Accord LX with 82,000 miles which has been running very well until recently. The car has had the ignition wires, plugs, air cleaner and dist and rotor replaced several months ago. The timing belt and water pump were changed at the dealer two years ago. I have the ac on most of the time in hot weather; the idle fluctuates when the compressor cycles on and off which I understand is normal. However, now I am not using the ac in Fall weather the idle imparts a quick vibration through the steering wheel and the tach still shows my normal 700-750 approx reading. This "roughness" is also felt in the floor when accelerating. It is very subtle but still noticeable to me the driver. I know it is difficult to make any diagnosis from what I have given you but please give it your best shot. I am thinking engine mount??

I had a rear engine mount replaced because that is all the service guy could find wrong with the car. Now tonight several weeks later I have CEL upon starting the car after sitting for several hours after a 30 mile ride. The car is running well otherwise. I will be taking it in to have the code read on Monday.. hopefully nothing too serious.

Well I don't know what is great about CEL since it can be a real pandora's box of troubles.

get the code yourself... you dont have to go have it read, if you search you'll find plenty of info on jumping the connector.

Today I had the fault codes read: O2 sensor and catalytic converter and they reset the ecu. I called the Honda dealer; they want $900 to do this job. Does that seem reasonable? Remember I am in N.Y so these are N.Y. prices. What is the warranty on the catalytic converter for 1998 4cyl Accord Sedan with 83,000 miles which is a certified Honda used car? Thanks.

Default That price is ridiculous check to see the distributor lines up!

By the diagnosis given, there is not much to go on. I would have the distributor checked since they have the tendency to unallign, especially if it was not replaced right. As for 900 dollars that is ridiculous. I am an ASE master tech and I would reccommend buying an o2 sensor 40-60 bucks and a universal cat about 50-75 bucks. That is, if price is an object. I usually do that job for 300 bucks. They are both fairly easy to replace.

there is a fedral law for warrenty on converters it ten years or 70,000 miles. but i see you are already over that milage. just for later use on another vehicle. I was working for a shop and got volvo to replace an exhaust for a customer of mine because of that law.

You're just over. My '98 Accord warranty book says for non-California cars the cat is covered for 8 years or 80k miles.

See if you can make a case for it because it was probably less than 80k miles when you first went to the dealer about this???
