Keys for 5th gens
I have a 1997 SE and I lost one of my keys. So I'm left with the regular key, and the valet key. I don't really feel too good about this.
Can I simply have another key made, or do I have to purchase them from the dealer?

If im not mistaken, honda started using an immobolizer for the accord from 97 and up. In that case, you would need to go to the dealer since they have to program the key into the car's immobolizer system.
anyone know if honda can cut keys off the VIN - i had copies of my keys made and they barely work, the original honda key barely works too, guess the key's just getting worn out... This is the first time i've had a car that the key wore out before the car...
97 Accord was the last year model not to have a chip, so
getting copies is very easy. And yes the dealer can look up by vin, but
its a lot cheaper while you have one to copy.
The valet is the best key to copy, since it hardly get used so it
would be the cleanest to copy.

when they cut a key from your vin it works just fine i had two done so i could give one to my parents to hole on to but they work perfectly fine and the valet only lets you open certain things it will not lock the glove box
