Default newbie question about center console panel on 1998 Accord

For my first DIY project, I want to run a wire from the audio head unit to the back seat, under the center console. I had found instructions on the net for removing the trim ring (around the shifter), the center console panel, the front tray, and finally the entire center console. I tried to follow the instructions and easily removed the trim ring, but I have been prying at the center console panel for hours, and it would not lift. I am worried if I applied too much force, I might break the panel, break the snap-in retaining clips (I have already broken and lost some of the retaining clips on other panels) or make scratches on the trim surface. Is there any trick in removing the center console panel, and the center console itself? Should I perhaps try to pry one end up before the other? Could someone give any advice? Thanks!
