starting air valve??
alright, got the car 10 months ago and had problems with it idling so i found out my iac valve was stopped up where the coolant goes through. well by the time i found out that was the problem i had already taken off my starting air valve (located at the very right hand end of the intake plenum) and opened it up to clean it. found it was clean so i reassembled it and put it back on. keep in mind i have only had the car for a couple weeks and haven't gotten used to it's querks yet. ever since i can remember it's always kinda kicked on startup. almost like when the timing is set too high on older carburerated vehicles and it bucks on startup but not quite that bad. anyways i was casually reading through my haynes manual and ran across the starting air valve and it said apply vacuum to it and if it doesn't hold vacuum then it needs replacing. so i put my vacuum gun on it and it bleeds off real fast every time. i put sylicone around the diaphram where it meets in the center and will see if that fixes the vacuum problem. my question is (finally-sorry) where can i get one of these besides the dealer??? advance, oreilly, and auto zone have never heard of such a thing and i'd like to get a new one if all possible instead of one from the yard. any info would be helpful!!
may i also add that after it has gotten to operating temperature and you crank it, it starts up fine and smooth which in the beginning just made me think it was a rough cold starter but then i drove my relatives '90 honda accord and it started so smooth out in cheyenne wyoming in 40 degree weather. thats what led me to start looking for something. hope this helps!
