Default VSS help!!

alright drivin along doing about 60 and speedometer flickers down to 30 and then back up to 60. two min's later it completely drops and then check engine light comes on. heard its my vss but am not sure what it is yet. any one else had this problem, replaced the vss and fixed it so i don't go spend 150.00 for something i don't need?? thanks guys!

did you lose complete electrical power?

a failing alternator would do the same thing.

nah got good grounds...i'm thinking some coolant may have gotten inot the vss b/c it's located right below some of the heater hoses i replaced about a week prior to this occurence. thanks guys

it would help if you mentioned the year of the car as 4th gens had a problem with the VSS going bad

5th gen has a worse problem then 4th.. the 5gen 6cy especially.. u could have easily gotten coolant on the plug or wiring.. the plug gets filthy because of where the vss is located..may just be loose.. u usually get a D4 flash and jumpy speedo gauge.. not always though.. mine is a cluster problem with my 4th gen.. i got no cel..

you can get a non-honda version of the part for $20-$25 on ebay (and other places im sure).

good luck by the way, im having the same issue right now but haven't even had the $20-$25 to by the part to fix it, haha =/

EDIT: of course the link above was the thread i started for my 1990 accord ex, so it may not apply to you

acutually I have yet to replace a 5th gen VSS yet just the speedos...but the 4th gen the VSS goes out quite often we kept them in stock.
