Default Do I need a new battery??

Last night I went out for a "spirited" drive after the streets dried up (rained all day) and I noticed at one point that when the car was at around 5K rpm, my battery light was kinda trying to light up very dimly. The higher the rpms the brighter it would get, but it would turn off once it went below like 4K. I was guessing that the battery is probably about to die. Is that most like the culprite? (BTW no other lights on the dash lighting up, just the battery.)

Also, I was looking into getting an optima red top battery... worth it? aproximately how much can I expect one to go for at a regulay shop?

Is there any other battery I should look into, and for how much?

The same thing used to happen to me and it turned out to be my alternator so do a voltage test first.

Optima red tops are the best, I've never heard anything bad about them.

hah, just buy a battery and put it in the trunk, that way when the batt. does go out...change it on the spot and go on your merry way!

It's strange. It had done the same thing like about 3 weeks ago, but those have been the only two times I've seen it do that. I had also been thinking of getting a high output alternator, so I guess I'll have to test the battery and alt. and see which one is going to get replaced first. Any cons to high output alts.? Recomended brand or sites to buy from would be helpful too.

Can someone tell me the difference between the optima red tops and yellow tops?

Yeah that really sounds like a grounding problem to me man...grounds get corroded very easily.

update:

I still havent tested the alt, but I went and got an optima red top

Awesome battery
system hits harder, and engine running better. (lower rpms while doing certain MPH)

Will have to wait and take her out for a "spirited" drive this weekend and see what happens with the battery light.

Still considering the high output alt. Gonna have to do some research.
