Why buy an Accord

I had two Volvos. The first, an '85 740 was an absolute tank. It was slow as hell but I loved the fact that it just kept going and going and going and cost practically nothing to maintain. Even after I got T-boned (fairly low speed) the damn thing made the ~150 mile trip home where it still sits today. That was before Ford bought Volvo.
Second car was a 1998 S70, designed and built after Ford bought them out. That was a decent highway cruiser and an OK around town car, but too many things started to go wrong with it. Volvo mechanics cost too much and I don't have the use of a decent workspace since I'm now on my own in an apartment. I wanted to keep it so that I could save money but one can only deal with so much when you are absolutely dependent on your car.
Enter the 2002 Accord Coupe, my ideal car. I like the style, I like the gas mileage (35-36hwy), I like the manual transmission, and I like the fact that the overall quality and feel is as good or better than my prior Eurocruisers. Of utmost importance is that my odds of having problems with it are about as low as any car on the market. Things happen and cars disappoint but at least I know I'm playing the right card.

Ok, I admit it, While my Cougar was broke I had to have something to drive so I bought of a friend of a friend a 1982 Buick lasabre, this thing was a tank but ran like a tank, and overheated and I had to bypass the heater coil, then the reservoir boiled over and overheated again and leaked, and yeah, great car though, got me to work...

I guess I'll chime in again, since I'll be the owner of a new 06 Accord within the next couple of weeks or so, as my 96 has found a good home. I gave the offerings from GM and Ford a fair chance, and here is the reason I am going for round 2 with another Honda...
The model I decided on is an EX-L w/ the K24 and 5A:
-The Accord looks and feels more expensive than it is. It's business type looks and luxurious interior are a winning combination that can't be beat. I feel important when I drive it.
- The build quality, fit and finish, refinement and sophistication are outstanding for a car in this class and price range.
- The K24 feels like a small V6, and is by far the smoothest and most refined 4cylinder engine I've ever driven.
-The interior design is beautiful and everything is positioned perfectly (the sliding arm rest is a godsend) thus I am less likely to get bored with it (as I would with the Toyota Camry)
-The stock stereo headunit kicks butt. The big digital display is modern & attractive. The guages are equally cool.
-The seats are the best of any mid-size car I've sat in. You sit IN the seat, rather than on top of it.
- Of all the mid-size cars I considered in the Accords price range, the Accord was the most well rounded. It combines attractive styling, luxurious and comfortable interior, good performance, excellent quality throughout and a refined powertrain with great handling and of course Honda reliability/longevity.... all for under $25k.
I'll let everyone know when I bring home the new car.
