Default Power antenna blues

95 Accord EX

Power antenna motor is still good. It runs anyway.

I bought a new mast.

Got the old one out.

Trying to get the new one in.

I can get the new mast to grab and be taken in. I just can't get it to take all the way. It is difficult to get from the radio to the back of the car to help feed it.

Is this a 2 person job? What are the secrets?

TIA.

lol. The secret when I did mine was to use my R/C for the stereo so I could shut it off with the remote and not have to run around.

LOL. Yeah. You have no idea how much I was wishing I had an R/C last night or that my Golden Retriever could sit in the front seat for me....

OK. So, WITH SOME HELP, I got the thing in. It just doesn't want to pull all the way in. It's out like 3/8." So it's not perfect...

Is there a way I can fix this without stripping all the teeth???

When I did this on my old '94 it didn't take all the way. So (not that I endorse doing this) I stopped it from going up all the way (about the difference in the amount it isn't going down) then turned the radio back off, and voiala....perfect.

Yeah, I messed with it quite a bit last evening and now it seems to be fine, or at least better. We'll see if the teeth work out and if the lowering stays consistent in its behavior.

Either way... An $18 mast (delivered off of eBay) and a little hassle is better than a $100-$150 new motor assembly, etc.

Thanks for the input.

That was going to be my next step actually. I think it's fine now though.... If it starts giving me issues, that's exactly what I'll do. I already had to take the motor out for other issues anyway, so one more time will not hurt anything.
