91 Accord Fuel Filter instructions needed please..
Does anyone have any good diagrams or just plain text instuctions with step by step insturctions for a fuel filter install on a 91 accord..thanks a lot...I'm hoping to change it soon becuz I don't remember the last time this has been changed..
Unless Honda changed from 90-91, it's on the firewall behind the distributor.
The tricky part is loosening the banjo bolt that connects fuel outlet and tubing connection for inlet fuel line. On my 90 EX they were extremely tight. There is a boss on the filter that you can use to engage an open end wrench to hold the filter cannister while you break the banjo bolt w/ a ratchet. The firewall mount will not hold the torque required to break the banjo, so don't try w/o a holding wrench.
The inlet tubing connection is also very tight. A tubing wrench is best tool, but a good vise grip will do the job w/ minimal damage to the nut. If you try an open end 10mm wrench, you may round off the nut. Again hold the cannister w/ wrench on the boss lug at the top of the cannister.
I seriously doubt this will make any difference, but it's relatively cheap for the filter, and as long as you're careful will do no harm.

Locate the Vin# on the firewall. There should be a black box that needs to be moved aside for access the fuel filter. Your new fuel filter should come with a few copper washers. Find your fuel rail. Look on the driver's side and you will see a bolt with a thin head. It's best to use a ratchet and socket (i think it's a 12mm) to loosen the bolt. This will relieve your fuel pressure. Be sure you have rags anywhere you are removing anything from the fuel system. And watch your eyes. I've never had fuel spray me, but it could happen. After relieving the pressure you can remove the lines on the fuel filter. BTW it's not fun. There is little room. You will be unable to mix up the fuel lines because they are different. Be sure to use the new copper washers where the old ones were located. And remember to tighten the bolt down on the fuel rail with new washers as well. Torque to 120 inch pounds or 10 ft lbs. on all the fittings. Or just snug as I do it. Do not cross thread anything and good luck.
Does anyone know if after changing the fuel filter will affect your tranny in anyway. I changed my fuel filter and now I noticed my tranny downshifting really hard..the whole car jerks..but during pick up..the tranny is smooth.. I have auto..I changed the ATF just at first to see if it would make a difference..and nope..it didn't..
