antenna mast on a 91 accord??
My antenna on my 91 accord only goes part of the way up and part of the way down. I can here the motor running when I turn the car off. I think I need a new mast. Were can i get one? and are the hard to install? I also noticed that my radio recpetion isnt the greatest, would the antenna being broke affect this?
thanks
thanks
Some parts shops such a s, crap let meeh think, im in thailand so i have to , ohh yeah Advance auto parts and Orielly sumtimes has it. Not too sure about Autozone. Inside the powermast is a plastic slotted "wire" it runs around the mast motor for up and down operation. Its probally broken halway. On the power mastthe locking collar(cap) well the picture is prettu explanitorry. Remove the special nut, spacer and bushing.Ater this is done have sumone turn the radio on, the mast will start to extend when it stops yu gentlly pull it the rest ways up.
Installation:
# Carefully direct the teeth of the mast antenna drive cable as shown, and insert the drive cable into the antenna housing.
# Check for engagement of the cable teeth to the drive gear by carefully moving the cable up and down.
# Turn the radio switch "OFF", and let the motor pull the drive cable inside the antenna housing.
# Clean the mast antenna housing threads and insert the mast antenna into the antenna housing, and in- stall the bushing and spacer, tighten the special nut. 20 lb-in.
# Check that the mast antenna extends and retracts fully when the radio switch is turned ON and OFF repeatedly. If you over-tightened the nut, the antenna may stick. If sticking occurs, back the nut off a little, then raise and lower the antenna again. Repeat until the antenna moves freely.

thanks well now i have a problem,
I used a tool to remove the "special nut", it broke free with a little force, and then broke away from the base. My problem is that the head of the "special nut" separated from the threaded base. The base is still in the antenna unit. Im sure it hasent been removed sence the day the car was built. I think the threaded part corroded and fused to the area around it.Any ideas on how to get it out? I really dont want to have to buy a whole new antenna unit, as i dont need one, and they are expensive.
thanks

If yu apply tooo much pressure they DO break away like that, suks i kno. The top one yur referring to correct, kinda chrome and the base id sorta plastic? Well if the head broke off to where yu can still remove the spacer and bushing, the easiest thing would be to remove the unit frum the car. When out yu sould be able to remove the remainder of the " special nut" from the collar of the unit.
I can get the antenna unit to remove from the side of the car. If I just pull on the antenna will it come out of the base unit? Do i need to take the motor unit appart to make sure the cable gets feed in correctly?
I dont know what tool I can use to remove the rest of the "special nut" that is left behind. There is really nothing to grab on to.
When i removed the "special nut" I dident apply too much torque, just enought to break it free. But it was corroded that the base sheared from the top.

on the "Special Nut" yu are refering to is the first "special nut yur spossed to remove, am i correct? If the top of it has come off if yu are able to slide the rest of theretainers off, the antenna should be able to be removed.as stated key on and gentlly pull up when the motor has pushed it as far up as can.
