Default Reliability V6 Vs. I4?

How is the overall reliablility for a V6 vs a I4 Accord? I found a 2000EX v-6(94k) for sale but I am concerned about reliability. Especially the Alternator and Tranny. would it be worth the risk, or should it just get a I4?

Does the timing belt get changed at the same time on the v-6 as it does on the I4??

Thanks

Please do a search and look through past threads, we go over this a lot.

The transmission of the V6 is slightly less reliable than the I4 and the alternator usually goes between 100 and 150k but only costs about $120 to replace. Both the V6s and the I4s have occaisonal stories about how this or that broke...my V6 has almost 200k on it and I couldn't be happer with the reliability.

Thanks, I did search, but prabally dident search using the right words.

Would it be a safe bet that if the tranny was going to go, it would go by 94k? It may already have been replaced.

The tranny is going to go eventually no matter if it was a perfect example or not, and certainly won't go at a specific mileage. Mine went till 150k. I believe defective trannys are those that go within the first 50k miles.

Bottom line is if you're buying an automatic transmission car (from any manufacturer), you have to be prepared to put in a new transmission if it goes...just like in a manual you need to worry about the clutch and all of that, an automatic will wear out eventually.

I know they all go eventually, I was just wondering if they will last as long as a I4 tranny.

I have a 91 ACCORD with 143k and it still shifts fine(knock on wood). I would hope to get at least that out of a newer model. I ony put 7-8k a year on my cars.

It depends on how you drive and how the previous owner drove. What basically kills the transmission is when you try to go like a NASCAR driver on the stop lights.
I had a failed tranny on my 03 Accord at 24k.
The point is there is no telling what will happen to your tranny until it happens.
