newbie w/96 vtec accord needs direction
Bought an 96 ex accord sedan for a steal and it seems to be pretty sound mechanically; 190,000 mi and many minor cosmetic problems. Ideally I'm a "stoplight assassin" and am caught between building a little grunt into what I've got or getting a 98-02 5spd 4cyl vtec coupe and working it; at least i wouldn't have all the little cosmetics to fool with and much less mileage on the motor.
Target performance would have stock '05 acura TL or Maxima scratching his head as to what happened!
Maybe 75 - 100HP over stock. My preferrance is all motor but, I realize this might be a little ambitious. I don't have 10 grand pockets for the mods, probably 3 - 5000 over time. Car needs to be a daily driver and a 'sleeper' short of maybe the deeper exhaust note. So here's the 50 question list:
1. - told that the v6 wasn't the way to go because there's no manual trannys and the automatics tear up to easily (on the 98-02s)
2. - was thinking of short ram intake, headers - free flow cat - 2" pipe -
flow master muffler, venom 400, crane ignition system, ...???
3. - is it worh considering a motor swap to a DOHC motor or just "iron duke" a SOHC should I want to go to performance rods and pistons, grinding and polishing the heads, larger injectors, etc.
4. - heard that using a lightweight flywheel with a mild HP upgrade makes the car kind of lurch at cruising speeds on the highway?
5. - heard that machining the heads on hondas tends to make the motors problematic
6. - Is it better to try to get a used LSD tranny or use a Quaiffe Diif with what i have now?
7. - Any comments or things i should be thinking about but, didn't know enough to ask about
THANX GUYS

You're gonna wanna PM Nightshade. He's the only one with an all-motor 5th gen Accord on here that reaches performance at those levels.
It can be done, but is it worth it on a 10 year old Accord with 200k on the chassis? That's up to you. But I can tell you that you're not going to gain 25 wheel horsepower with the mods you listed, let alone 100.
