Default Screech!!...after alternator and ps belt install.

Hi guys,

I had both my alternator and ps belts replaced by a friend with Honda Parts.
He couldn't find the tension bolt for the alternator and so he took some bolts off to the point where the alternator pivoted down. Then he simply replaced the belt.

The problem is now when I start the car, I hear a loud screeching sound for about 1-2 seconds. Everything else seems ok. I just don't want my alternator killed in case he did over tightened the belt!

Default what kind of car?

it might be that the belt needs to be adjusted properly, or its too tight.

What kind of car do you have? If you have a Honda with the auto tensioner that requires a special tool (or a big ass wrench) to release tension, you might have done this incorrectly.

it is a 98 ex inline 4. The problem is fixed. The belt was too loose. Thanks. I don't think we used the tensioner..just the pivot of the alternator.

In the future there's an auto tensioner on the alternator that requires pushing forward with a 'special tool' or large wrench.
