Default dashboard lights

Hi there,
I have 95 honda accord ex 2d. I need help in diagnosing a problem.
When I switch on the headlight of the car in night, the meter lights(odometer, speedometer etc.) in the dash don't come up. The instrument panel is completely dark. The lights of the radio and the clock get dim. The brightness control switch doesn't have any effect on the brightness of the clock and radio light. All the other lights are working properly. When I switch on the ignition the other cotrol lights come on properly in the dash such as seat bet, abs, srs etc. I have checked the fuses. All of them looks fine.
Last night one more thing happened. The odometer and tripmeter has stopped working suddenly. The miles does not increase in both. Dunno if both the problems are related.
Please help in diagnosing and fixing the problem if the fix is not too complicated.
I appreciate all ur help and thanks in advance.

Is there a fuse for the instrument lights? Could be a faulty ground or a loose wire in the connectors if not.

There is no specific fuse for instrument panel lights. Closest I could match is Backup Lights, Meter Lights. But this fuse is alright.
If I have to troubleshoot for faulty ground or lose wire, do I need to take out the dash panel(driver side)?
Could the dimmer switch wrong in my case? I read in some of the messages in this forum that fauly dimmer switch can be a problem.

Also an update... today morning I inserted the key in the slot for maintenance required indicator. The odomter and tripmeter started working.

Again ...appreciate ur help.

I am so glad you had that same problem with your odometer and found out how to fix it. I had the same problem with my odometer, and I was in this forum trying to find out to remove the dash so that I could see if I could fix it. I went out and did the same thing you did and by golly, it's working now. Now my wife's mind is at ease. Thanks for figuring that out and saving me a lot of heartache!
