Aftermarket Header = Engine Stall ? 99Accordv6
I own a 99 Accord EX cpe. I bought this aftermarket header from online and now (like 4 months later) I get the check engine light. I went to Discount Auto & have it read and the code says my Bank 1 oxygen sensor is bad and my cat. convo is bad too. My question is if I replace this sensor and maybe both of them (Banks 1+2) AND get a high-flow replacement cat, could i still have probs b/c the header is the real prob. ?? Help me out, thanks.
I have about 90k. The header is an off-brand. I'm thinking maybe the bad sensor was telling my car to run too richly which has destroyed my cat AND/OR also it could tell my engine there's not enough pressure preventing it from ignition ??? It doesn't stall while it's on though, at least not yet..
Bad O2 sensors are common on 98 and 99 J30A1's. I would replace the O2 sensor and then see if it still gives you the cat error; it could have tripped the cat code as well. The O2 sensor is kind of pricey, but we can be reasonably confident that it's gone.
I'm not sure if your header is to blame or not. My guess would be no, but to find out you'd have to measure the A/F ratio.
As far as the cat, mine has been throwing the code intermittently for the past 30k miles. I passed emissions last fall so I just ignore it when the CEL comes on and I see that I have that code :dunno:
