Default Tranmission Whine

Transmission whines only when I let off the gas ( doesnt seem to whine when driving ) The whine is in sync with the fluctuation of the RPM gauge, which suggests to me that its tranny related. Usually when i let go of the gas, i can hear the whine and as my tranny downshifts -- the RPM shoots up a bit (with the downshift) and so does the whining noise and then falls back down.

Sign of bad things to come ? or is it a solenoid or torque converter ? I will have Honda diagnose it eventually though. Don't know much about cars so excuse me if my wording is incorrect.

Took my 2000 EX in and mentioned a whine that followed the RPM's. 4 days later I had a new transmission - free of charge.

I hope you have a 2000 or 2001...

Sounds like the torque converter.

For a simple test, get up to about 50-60 MPH (enough to have it in 3rd or 4th gear with the TC locked). Then punch the gas quickly, but not hard, just enough to unlock the TC but not drop down a gear. If you get jerkiness or shuddering, it's a bad unit.

You might have a shot if it is near or below 100k miles...otherwise I think you're in trouble.
