f23 cams??
I'm looking to get a more aggressive cam for my f23. I know of some places that you can get a reground cam, but i was wondering if there is any company that makes cams cuz i really dont wanna get mine reground. i know crower makes a lot of things like that but i havent been able to find anything.
As far as I can tell only WEB and Bullfrog will make cams for the F23A, it is basically a regrind of the OEM cam. I don't see this as long term unless you somehow heat treat the new cut lobes?
To my knowledge no one makes a new fresh, more aggressive, F23A1 or 4 Vtec cam. I'd love to find one, calls-emails to Crower were met with flat out NO.
Unless we can convince the 98-02, and maybe the 5th EX's(and early CL's) to come along we are at a loss for new Cams.....
We would have to pony up the funds for Crower tooling to make cams, not very economical.

Any horsepower/torque figures on an F23 Vtec w/ a 're-ground' cam? It may not be that expensive if one considers how much is spent on an intake, pulleys, header and a catback for relatively small hp gains. If there was enough interest in a new (not reground) cam, the cost could be somewhat reasonable, but the cam manufacturer(s) would need to see some stats that would support their tooling up a new cam.
A more aggressive cam could wake up the 'tractor motors' in our 6th gen I4s. . .Is the basic cam the same for an F22 and an F23, for that would spread the tooling costs over a wider application?

I'm not sure, I tried to get F20 stats from the European I4 model 6th gen coupes but I never got them. Maybe we would find a more aggressive came over the pond. (It was actually made here though.) They have Vtec and all in Europe, fewer ponies but more RPM, maybe they would work in our heads, not sure?
I searched all around probably...half a year ago for different cam options for our F23s and nobody offered a new came, they were all just regrinds. The risk wasn't worth it to me. F23 blocks are cheap but I'm a poor student and couldn't afford a new one anyway. I found positive and negative reviews of most all the cams, a few positive and a bagillion negative about Gude. I dunno, just contributing my two cents.
Yea i saw those Gude ones on accordperformance.com, but i really dont feel like having someone grind down the lobes on a stock cam. I could probably do that myself if I had the time. I know that performance cams are usually made out of lighter materials so they can spin faster with less resistance.
Anyone have any experience with the Gude cam? That might be my only option....

The F23 is not a fast engine so cam recipricating weight wouldn't be the big issue. performance cams change Intake and Exhaust valve, lift, duration, and in our engines Intake vs. exhaust over lap since both are on the same cam unlike the DOHC engines. A regrind can change some but, the regrind is still limited to the original lobe pattern. A fresh cam would be better IMO.
I've never actually held a honda cam before, i've always had GM cars and their cams are ridiculously heavy!!
Anyway, with the reground cam, is it only duration that changes? Cuz now that you said that it got me thinking, yea it is still limited to the original lobe. What I'm picturing is a longer duration on the intake and exhaust lobes to give it more time to expel burnt gases and bring in fresh air. The lift couldn't be longer since the lobes aren't being changed at all.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong please, cuz I've never had to deal with a reground cam before. I always bought performance cams...
