Compiling a Comprehensive Exhaust Guide
so, after about 5 years of driving with a universal and custom 2.25" piping, my mom has finally agreed to let me shell out some good money for a better exhaust. i'm now looking for the typical, non-rice, quiet, no drone, deep, throaty sounding catback. and after searching for 'catback exhaust' and reading about 4 pages of threads (didn't go past 2002 cuz i wasn't sure if that was gonna be that helpful), this is the info and the questions that i've got:
reputable brand names - magnaflow, greddy evo2 sp2, apex-i ws2, comptech, thermal r&d, tanabe, hks, tenzo, rs*r - any others?
catback v. axleback - is there a noticable difference in sound/performance? because an axleback should be cheaper, right?
2" v. 2.25" - do any of these come with 2" piping? because i'd like to have 2" so i can get a little bit more low-end torque.
tip size/shape - anybody know the tip sizes and shapes? because i dont really want something huge, maybe something in the middle, and something circular and angle-cut
fully ss - which ones are fully stainless steel? because i used to live in chicago, and things rust like mad there.
sites to buy from - www.completeexhaust.com , www.modacar.com , http://www.turboimport.com/catalog/accord.htm , www.rpmmotoring.com , www.groupbuycenter.com - any others?
right now i'm leaning heavily towards magnaflow, because people said the sound is nice and quiet, and its fully ss for about 350 shipped. thanks guys. i plan to edit this post with credits, and maybe it'll help all the rest of the tons of people that have exhaust questions.

By the sound you want, it appears that a Greddy Evo II is the best option. I have it and it is a great sounding and looking exhaust. It is a little more than $350 but you get what you pay for. It is also stainless steel throughout.
I would stray away from an axleback. Get a full catback for the best results. The piping on most aftermarket exhausts is 60mm or 2.36". The torque loss isn't bad and Hondas aren't known for torque, so you will be losing power if you go with a smaller diameter piping.
Check out this site for some sound clips (they are for Integras but you get the basic idea of piping size, appearance, and sound: http://www.team-integra.net/sections...?ArticleID=451
