Default Oil in #2 spark plug well?

I was changing my spark plugs and noticed a lot of oil in the number 2 hole. It was almost past the top of the spark plug. The three and four hole also have a small amount of oil, nothing like the 2 hole. The car was running fine, although I have been burning off a lot of oil lately. What could the problem be and how much am I looking at to get it fixed? Also, since the car has been running is it ok to continue running or am I risking blowing something up?

Thanks,

Sean

it sounds like you have a bad set of rubber seals around your valve cover/spark plug holes.

I recommend going to a parts store..ordering a full "rubber valve cover gasket set" for your car. It'll come with 4 grommets, 4 spark plug hole seals and a main gasket to go around the rim of your valve cover.

And yes..over time that oil will come up out of your spark plug holes and even erode your wires...just do this for about $15 and save yourself any future headaches.

One tip though....be VERY careful about over torquing those valve cover nuts. I stripped one of mine. And toque wrenches dont go as low as is needed to not strip it. I would tighten it as much with my fingers..then do 180 degree turn with your wrench. This on all 4 nuts....start your engine and check for oil leaks around the valve cover and in about a day or two....check again..this time removing the plug wires to make sure no oil is seeping into those ports.

Hope this helps. And if you dont have a manual. While youre at that auto parts store...GET ONE!!!! They usually sell "haynes" autozone and advanced auto parts.
