Default oil loss, thrush washer failure

Hello,

My 2001 Accord with 81,000km just eat itself. The mechanic told me I had let the oil level get too low and the thrust washer siezed to the crank shaft and was ejected into the oil pan. This in turn destroyed the crank shaft and contaninated teh oil with metal shavings.

To my knowledge teh oil light never came on, I did add oil on three ocasions over the past 60 days, but each time 1 litre brought it back up to the right level.

Has anyone heard of a fault in the 2001 Accord engine causing this ti happen.

Thanks

i believe the oil light comes on due to oil pressure and not oil level (from what ive heard)...not sure if that helps
