idle problem?

my idle is normally at 1000. but some times after driving and stoping on a light it stays on 2000 rpm, so i tap the gas hopein it would go down but it want, and i got my a/c on and it still stays at 2000 rpm. whats the problem?

Pop the hood and see if the throttle plate is staying open. If the throttle plate is staying closed but your rpm is high then there is air bypassing the throttle plate.
